Run Wild

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this event about?

Run Wild is Heal the Bay's first-ever 5K run organized in conjunction with The Generosity Series. It will take place bright and early at 7:30am on Sunday, December 2, 2018, in Griffith Park. A number of other charities will be participating alongside Heal the Bay, which means it's bound to be one big party! To make things special for our Wavemakers, we will be showing up in our cutest, craziest bathing suit of choice and we encourage you to splash along with us. If you'd like to participate, simply register as either an individual or a team and we'll get started.

What if I don't want to wear a bathing suit?

Then you absolutely don't have to! Above all, this event is meant to be comfortable, enjoyable, and a chance to be part of an amazing community. If you'd still like to be a contender in our swimming costume contest, simply upload a photo of yourself in your kookiest bathing suit and invite others to vote for you by donating. Those voted into the top 3 win prizes!

Can I finish a 5K?

If you're in decent health, the answer is yes. Most people should have no problem finishing a 5K, or 3.1 miles. Nevertheless, do make sure to check with your physician before undertaking any exercise.

Do I have to run it?

Not at all! Feel free to come on out, spend a morning walking with your friends, and have a good time.

Will you give awards?

Yes. Everyone who finishes the 5K will receive a finisher medal. There will also be awards for the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as top three male and female finishers in each age group. And just because awards are such great fun, there will even be awards for Heal the Bay's top fundraisers, plus the top three fundraisers in the entire event.

How safe will this event be?

The event is permitted, licensed and coordinated with municipal enforcement officials. The Generosity Series planning team takes guidance from law enforcement and/or private security consultants. There will always be at least one ambulance and/or dedicated professionals on-site at the event.

How much does it cost to register?

$25

Is there an age limit?

No. Children, seniors, and families are always welcome.

What's this credit card processing fee all about?

As with any online credit card transaction, our credit card company charges a small processing fee. We are offering our participants and donors the chance to cover this fee when registering and/or making a donation. While this option is not required, it is available to those who would like their dollar amount to be fully represented.

How much money do I have to raise?

The low mandatory fundraising minimum is $200. And we'll be there every step of the way. Most participants easily raise more and we know you can too, especially with the tools you'll have to make fundraising easy - your own web page, sample emails, social media integration, plenty of fundraising tips, and us on the line whenever you might need it.

How much of this money goes toward Heal the Bay?

100%. The Generosity Series does not charge us any processing fees or commissions, so every cent you raise will be helping us make an impact.

Are donations tax deductible?

Definitely! We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, so your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. The tax ID is 95-4031055

What do I get for participating?

Once you've registered and raised the $200 mandatory minimum, you will receive an exclusive temporary tattoo, t-shirt, and Run Wild music playlist to get yourself ready for the big day, along with an invite to our after party. In addition to prizes that will be up for grabs during the race itself, we will be organizing fundraising challenges for all the participants leading up to the race. The more challenges you complete, the more points you earn and the more prizes you get to win! Stay tuned for updates.

If I don't want to run, what else can I do?

Tell your friends, family, and coworkers about this event! The more participants, the merrier. And then you can cheer them on by donating to their fundraising campaign, which will be a great way to show us and them how much you care. Alternatively, you can also make a general donation to Heal the Bay or sign up to volunteer with us.
